Some people believe that academic subjects such as chemistry, physics, and history should be taught in schools while others believe that students will derive more benefit from studying practical subjects such as motor mechanics and cooking. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Schools teach both academic and practical subjects to students. Learning academic and practical subjects helps students to carry out various activities later in their life. While some people think that learning academic subjects is more beneficial than learning practical subjects, other people oppose this point of view.

In this essay, I will mention why learning practical subjects carry more benefits than learning theoretical lessons.

Learning practical subjects is more beneficial than academic subjects because practical knowledge always has practical applicability in real-life situations; whereas, learning academic subjects do not have a practical application in life. Experience received from exposure to practical lessons, definitely, helps an individual to utilize it while performing different tasks. For example, studying motor mechanics may help a person to repair a faulty motor. Similarly, cooking experience in school days will always be cherished by many people later in their life. Such long term benefits are lacking in academic subjects.

Contrastingly, one can oppose the benefits of learning practical subjects by pointing out that practical subjects do not serve in increasing the academic knowledge of a person such as knowledge about the history of a country, physical and chemical properties of some natural elements. Academic knowledge is learned through theory classes in which memorizing the subjects are necessary. Thus learning these subjects helps in increasing the knowledge regarding various factors. But when we look at the limited practical applicability of such bookish knowledge in life, we can declare that practical lessons are beneficial in a higher number of activities in life.

To sum up, after closely examining both sides of the argument, we can conclude that there is more number of benefits to learning practical subjects than academic subjects in life. Hence, in my opinion, learning practical subjects is better than learning academic subjects in life.
