Some universities deduct marks from student's work if given late. What are your views and what action would you recommend to take?

University going students are expected to submit their assignments on time. While some people think that deducting the marks of students who lately submit their assignments is a good practice, others maintain that deducting the marks is not an effective method to discipline the students. This essay will discuss why deducting the marks of late submitter's is an ideal method to institute discipline in students.

University students are mature enough to understand their responsibilities and are expected to follow the guidelines outlined by the university, especially abiding by submission dates of their assignments. Deducting marks from assignments which are submitted after the deadline timing will discourage irresponsible attitudes of students'. To cite an example, about 25% deduction in an assignment will severely impact one's overall percentage of marks in the graduate course. This fear of losing marks make students submit their assignments on time. Hence it must be followed in all universities.

Maintaining uniformity in the evaluation method and justice to all students can be delivered by encouraging everyone to submit their assignments on time. Deadlines for submission of assignments along with a penalty for late submission maintain discipline in students. Hence, reducing marks from late submitter's is very essential in containing the misbehavior.

This essay discussed why deducting marks from lately submitted assignments is beneficial in maintaining discipline in university-level education because it gives the student a sense of responsibility and provides a fair evaluation method. In my opinion, deducting marks is very vital to make students responsible to submit their assignments on time.
