Nowadays many people go shopping in their free time. Shopping has replaced many other activities that people choose as their hobby. What are the reasons for this? Is this a positive or negative development?

It is a common fact today that many people in their free time go shopping rather than involving in other activities. The reason for this trend is many and varied. This will be shown by taking into account the main reasons, in detail, and how they have given rise to the situation more crucial.

In the first place, it is evident that the main reason is the influence of advertisements which attracts the people towards different shopping malls by offering various promotional offers. This is because people tend to purchase things when there are great discounts offered on goods and services, which are usually commercialized through billboards in buildings. For instance, whenever people see an "Offer" or "Sale" word in an advertisement, they will rush to such shops to grab their choices before the stocks get sold out.

Next, looking at another major reason, it is clear that the affinity towards luxury lifestyle and increased trend of consumerism forms a significant factor; because people use the money to get the things they want and they do not own any responsibility for the efforts in making of products. Further, the availability of sufficient expendable money,  which enables people to purchase the items they wish, pull them towards shopping destinations to satisfy their needs.

Finally, the availability of a variety of products in the market which helps people to lead their routine life effortlessly makes shopping as a favourite hobby for many people. The main reason for this is, people are ready to purchase items which reduce their work at home, thus enhancing their leisure time which in turn they spend shopping. A good example here is, many shopping destinations provide a wide variety of fast-food courts for customers, which makes people spend more time in such shopping spots.

As we have seen, it is clear that many people in today's world choose shopping as their leisure time activity and less likely to do other useful activities. So, I believe that this trend is potentially harmful to people in many ways, and is a negative movement.
