Some people believe that the age at which driving must be allowed should be increased from 18 to 25 years. To what extent do you agree with this statement?

The question of whether the age for driving should be lowered to 18 or people should be licensed to drive only after the age of 25 is a frequent topic of debate these days. I believe that citizens should get permission to drive on public roads only after the age of 25 which helps to reduce the accidents to a great extent.

Obviously, on one side, it is evident that it is a wise idea to increase the age limit to 25 as an eligibility criterion for getting a licence because at the age of 25 people would be more mature and they will be more responsible while driving. It is possible to say that, compared to adolescents, adults drive more cautiously on roads. For instance, the death toll of road traffic accidents proves that youngsters are more prone to serious traffic accidents than adults.

Next, looking at another major fact, it is clear that it is not a desirable thing to allow the youths to drive on public roads before the age of 25. The main reason for this thought is, driving is a thrilling experience for most of the youngsters. Speedy driving, drifting and racing on roads to experience the maximum thrill leads to accidents not only for them but also to other commuters on-road and pedestrians. In addition to this, showing off of high-energy and adrenaline rush on the main roads increases the traffic accidents dramatically.

On the other hand, it is also possible to make the opposing case. It is often argued that the criteria for licensing should be reduced to 18 years since the chronological age is not a determining factor for the efficiency of a driver. People have this opinion because even at the age of 25 if they are not well experienced and trained it may increase the road safety issues. A second point is that youths obey traffic rules and regulations more than the elder one as they are more afraid of their parents and judiciary system than the adults. However, there are some minor arguments with little weightage while considering the negative impacts of allowing driving at a young age.

As we have seen, it is clear that people under the age of 25 should not be encouraged to drive, and government and licensing authorities must not lower the age of eligibility to drive in public areas to 25 as it is dangerous to people's life.
